General Submission Rules

Please note that when you click on the "Submit Article" link, you will be prompted to make an account with the University of Rhode Island (URI). URI is the digital commons publishing home for the Journal of Feminist Scholarship and all reviews and correspondence will take place through this account.

Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic). Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to Journal of Feminist Scholarship, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that he or she will not submit the material to another journal (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at Journal of Feminist Scholarship.

The journal does not charge authors any fees for processing submissions or publishing accepted manuscripts. The JFS, at this time, can only accept completed work; the editors cannot offer feedback on work in progress.

All submissions are initially reviewed by the editors. If the internal review determines the manuscript has merit and is potentially suitable for publication in JFS, the anonymized manuscript is sent out for review to two external readers who are experts in the relevant field. We aim for the entirety of the review process to not exceed three months. Reports from reviewers are also anonymized and returned to authors along with any additional editorial feedback and with the decision to accept, reject, or invite revision and resubmission.

If you have concerns about the submission terms for Journal of Feminist Scholarship, please contact the editors.
