Abstract
Heat transfer in a packed bed can be represented by an effective thermal conductivity and a wall heat transfer coefficient. The system modelled was a tubular packed bed with two-phase gas-liquid cocurrent upflow. The model used an energy balance in differential equation form and the appropriate boundary conditions. The two dimensional model accounted for axial convection and radial conduction and assumed radial symmetry. (from authors abstract)
