Abstract

Hilary Levey Friedman, author of Here She Is: The Complicated Reign of the Beauty Pageant in America, explored the history of the suffrage sash and how it influenced the Miss America Pageant.

Friedman, who teaches courses for the Department of Education at Brown University, is a fellow at the Taubman Center for American Politics and Policy and president of the Rhode Island chapter of the National Organization for Women.

The event was sponsored by the Honors Program and the College of Arts and Sciences.
