Abstract
The present study analyses the narrative treatment of suicide in Spanish youth fiction television series produced between 2015 and 2024, aiming to identify representation trends in relation to the recommendations for responsible media coverage and their implications for media literacy. The methodology underpinning this study encompasses eight fiction TV series and combines quantitative research, derived from data collection and analysis, with a qualitative component, focusing on the interpretation and analysis of the results. Findings indicate that the representation lacks due caution in depicting the method and location of suicide, which increases the risk of imitation. Although the narratives present alternatives to suicide and provide information on protective and risk factors, critical areas remain that require attention and improvement. The study highlights the need to enhance the preventive effect of suicide depiction in television fiction aimed at adolescents and the importance of integrating media literacy into school suicide prevention programs so that young people can critically interpret these representations.
