Abstract

Work-life balance can be defined as the practice of dividing time effectively between responsibilities, relationships, and leisure activities. It is learning how to prioritize one’s time to be successful in all aspects of their life. As a college student, learning how to manage time may not be as easy as it sounds. A student in today’s society is expected to take as many classes as possible, do well in all classes, hold a part-time job, play a sport, join several clubs, hang out with friends constantly, party every night, maintain a healthy mental state, and more yet still get eight hours of sleep every night. Although all these tasks may not be expected of a single student, students as a whole have this list to accomplish. It can be extremely stressful for students to juggle their weekly workload. Growing up, many students have their parents to help them manage their time and college may be their first attempt at managing it themselves. College is meant to be a bridge between high school and working in a profession of the student’s choice. For some, college may also stand as a stepping stone to the major leagues or a last chance to play their sport. Whatever it may be, students must learn to manage their time effectively to be successful. This project was designed to see how college students would rate themselves in terms of time management. I conducted an anonymous survey to undergraduate students to learn if they feel their background has prepared them well enough to manage their time in college and if they feel prepared to manage their time post-graduation.
