Abstract

Ever since I was a child, I’ve dreamt of being famous. Like most kids, I wanted to be just like the women I saw on the screen, those who I looked up to. However, due to my lack of talent, I thought it would never be achievable. However, now, as the world of social media has evolved, I’ve realized that there are other avenues I can take toward this dream. Now, anybody can become famous. It doesn’t matter where you are from or if you’re talented- all that matters is that you are willing to consistently share your life on social media. For this project, I took this idea and applied it to my own Tik Tok account, hoping to discover the method of virality. Over the course of January, February and half of March I content batched 270 Tik Toks. 120 of these Tik Toks were made to trending sounds that pertain to my niche (college life, beauty, fashion, etc.) 90 of these Tik Toks were made about items- such as my favorite products, food, or sponsored products I received from brands. 60 of these Tik Toks were more personal, where I would post a video of me doing my makeup/getting ready or showing off my outfit/makeup look. In some of these, I would talk to the camera. Each of these Tik Toks were posted over a 30 day period, posting 9 Tik Toks a day. 4 videos pertaining to my niche were posted a day, 3 product videos were posted a day and 2 vlog-type videos were posted a day. These Tik Toks were posted when my followers are most active. Each day, I tracked my analytics, seeing how my followers fluctuated- helping me determine if there is a method to becoming Tik Tok viral.
