Abstract
“Scarred Vixen,” the first book in the trilogy series Seraphina’s Dream Trilogy, entails Hyacinth’s amnesiac arrival in Serendipity, the Celestials’ island of residence, amid a raging Second War for the upheaval of the balance between Light and Darkness. After quarrels between Seraphina and Her consort and between Seraphina and Her parents, Aristotle and Lavender, Lucifer taints the balance in Darkness’s favor. Seraphina breathed life and magic into the Celestials from their human forms to maintain the balance from descending and impending peril upon Turtle Island (the world); however, the First War favored Her adversary. Trauma travels from Turtle Island no matter where Hyacinth’s presence is felt; when ignored and cast aside, the ramifications leave deadly consequences. According to their tribe, all relations are extended without differences. Each Celestial possesses eloquent canvases of tattoos depicting their superpowers and past, elevating their status from being animals and reinstating a lack of hierarchy within Mother Earth’s (Seraphina’s) creations. Cinth’supbringing as Two-Spirit amidst the pervasiveness of colonial understandings of gender strengthens their beliefs in their role within their spirituality and as a shaman. Hyacinth’s first discovery of their past empowers them to enact Kautantuitt’s(Lavender’s) will and ascribe meaning to their runes. Since falling upon Serendipity, Hyacinth, Maximus, and Minna havebeen tasked with leading the Light Celestials throughout the Wars to quell the balance against the Midnight Celestials. Hyacinth’s memory loss renders them incapable of leading a team they once considered their “little warrior children.”Relationships and identities once regarded as sacred within the Celestial denominations fracture and blur the lines between dichotomous forces of magic in favor of blissful ignorance amidst the strains of war. Will Hyacinth rise to the challengeamidst constraints of dishonesty, trauma, and loss, or will the fate of Euphoria (Turtle Island) collapse under their shared reign?
