Abstract
The interaction of oxygen and CO with the alkali Na was studied with core level photoemission using synchrotron radiation. We observed intensity increases in the Na2p core level by a factor of 1.5-2 for the systems O2/Na/Ni(111), CO/Na/Ni(111), O2/Na/Cu(110) and O2/Na/Cu(111). These enhancements were more or less independent of substrate, coadsorbate and alkali precoverage. We examine several models to explain these observations. © 1993.
