Abstract
1. Besides astaxanthin, the presence of β-carotene, echinenone, canthaxanthin, dihydroxy-pirardixanthin ester, phoenicoxanthin was confirmed in prawn. 2. Apossible metabolic pathway from β-carotene to astaxanthin is proposed, and its sequence ist hus suggested; β-caroteae→echinenone→canthaxanthin→phoenicoxanthin→astaxanthin. © 1971, The Japanese Society of Fisheries Science.
