Abstract
A six sensor Vertical Reference Unit (VRU) was developed for comparison with commercial systems. The VRU was designed to have both high and low frequency cut-off frequencies which can usually be modified by a software onboard the ship. An Automated Motion Simulator Platform (AMSP) was used to conduct calibration tests on the VRU by comparing VRU measurements with measurements from a Seatex MRU-6 vertical reference of similar design. Results confirmed the design performance of the VRU and AMSP, and showed errors which are dependent on motion rate.
