Abstract
Sediment compressional wave speeds were estimated using broad-band data in range-dependent environments. The environment was assumed as mildly range dependent and was modeled using adiabatic theory. The inversion scheme was based on group speed-dispersion behavior. A genetic algorithm (GA) combined with a neighborhood approach was used for search. The top layer of sediment was mapped in the shelf region using acoustic data from explosive sources collected on a vertical line array.
