Abstract
Results of the long range sediment tomography inversions using the broad band acoustic data from the Asian Seas International Acoustic Experiment (ASIAEX) is discussed in this paper. A hybrid inversion scheme is used for the sediment tomography technique which utilizes the modal travel time data. The conventional approach is modified in this study incorporating the model sensitivity to tune the parameter search intervals. Model parameters with high sensitivity are searched at closer intervals and vice versa. This results in computational efficiency by concentrating search effort to model subspace which is more sensitive. The results of the tomographic inversions compare well with core measurements and estimates using other techniques. © 2010 American Institute of Physics.
