Abstract
Taking into account the fluctuations of the free surface for points in the vicinity of the still water level, this study analytically calculates the first four moments of wave velocity using second order random wave theory. Numerical studies are conducted for both linear and nonlinear random waves, in which the wave spectrum is characterized by a Pierson-Moskowitz (P-M) formulation. It is found that linear and nonlinear solutions are noticeably different.
