Abstract

This task focuses on developing a support apparatus for nuclear fuel rods and a radiation-proof camera that allows for an easier process to perform the yearly inspection. Picture clarity is a dilemma during this operation since pictures are taken from the surface of the pool. Therefore, clearly seeing defects, physical deformations, and the fuel rods serial number is a problem. This article explores the process in designing a support system for the fuel rod and camera pole to help improve the accuracy and efficiency of the inspection. Using a stable and stationary device for the camera housing and fuel rod will allow the camera to take pictures from inside the pool. The mechanical function of this apparatus was tested through computer software and met industry standards. Suitable materials and specifications for the device were explored and selected in order to meet design and nuclear pool requirements.
