Capstone Project
Abstract
The purpose of this Capstone project is to study various aspects of shock loads due to water impact on cylindrical objects. The team has designed an apparatus that can drop cylindrical payloads at specified heights, up to six feet, and at different orientations, pencil dive, belly flop and 45-degree angle, into a pool of water. Acceleration, impact force upon water entry and velocity will be recorded for the di erent trials and analyzed in order to determine the effects of the parameters on the experimental data. The experimental apparatus will allow the experiment to be easily repeated and give accurate results. These results have a wide applicability in many engineering fields particularly in the defense industry. The experimental design proved effective and resulted in interesting and informative data that will be discussed and interpreted further.
