Abstract
A critical comparison of the optical techniques of photoelasticity and caustic as applied to fracture mechanics is presented. Static as well as dynamic experiments are conducted using both the methods independently with the same specimen geometry and loading conditions. Stress intensity factor as a function of crack length is compared from both techniques.
