Abstract
An optical-fiber strain sensor, using a combined interference and polarimetric technique, is presented. The main advantage of this sensor is that it possesses the sensitivity of an interferometer and at the same time the sign of the strain can be determined without any electronic logic circuits. The strain values sensed by this technique match very well with an electrical strain gage signal. © 1993.
