Abstract
Recently, a novel fatigue testing rig was designed and constructed to investigate the interplay between a fatigue crack evolution and structural dynamics. The aim of this study is to build a simple nonlinear spring-mass-damper model for this testing apparatus and identify all related parameters. A set of forced vibration tests were conducted with different hardware configurations and excitation signals to understand dynamic properties of different components of the rig and present nonlinearities. The system parameters were identified using standard modal analysis and nonlinear system identification approaches. Copyright © 2010 by ASME.
