Abstract
The effect of boundary conditions on the thermo-mechanical structural response of Hastelloy® X plates under shock loading was experimentally studied. Three different boundary conditions were considered in the experiments namely, simply supported, clamped and loaded. A series of experiments were conducted at room temperature, 400 and 800 °C. High speed cameras were used to capture the real time images of the specimen. An optical band pass filter was used to aid the image capturing at high temperatures. The technique of digital image correlation (DIC) was used to obtain the displacement and strain data. © The Society for Experimental Mechanics, Inc. 2015.
