Abstract
An experimental study is conducted to evaluate the abrasive waterjet machinability of engineering materials. The equation to predict the depth of cut is derived based on an erosion model formulated in previous studies. The cutting model is modified by introducing a new AWJ cutting parameter called 'Erosion Resistance'. The materials machinability is quantified in terms of a ' Machinability Number' which is determined for various engineering materials. A method for predicting the process parameters developed using the governing equation of the 'Machinability Number'.
