Abstract
The article discusses how introducing automation in batch assembly work by the use of assembly robots can improve industrial efficiency and how robotics can influence designs. The application of group technology to classify product and part design features that affect assembly costs is also discussed. The use of multi-station transfer systems for production rates over 150,000 is suggested.
