Abstract
Methodologies have been developed and implemented in LISP and OPS-5 languages which address type synthesis of mechanisms. Graph theory and separation of structure from function concepts have been integrated into an expert system to implement the following four activities: 1) enumeration of all non-isomorphic labelled graphs; 2) identification of those graphs which satisfy structural constraints; 3) sketching of mechanism corresponding to a given graph; 4) identification of those graphs and equivalent mechanism which satisfy functional constraints. In this work, a methodology is developed to integrate all the above activities involved in mechanism design into an expert system that can carry out these activities by computer.
