Abstract
A brief history of the North Atlantic passenger vessel trade is presented with special emphasis on the development of American participation in the industry. The current cruise ship growth is outlined with insight into the economic nature of cruise sip operations, with a twenty-year cabin cost profile and analysis of price growth of foreign and domestic vessels. The results of an industry survey are presented and coastwise cruise routes are discussed as an alternative for U.S.-flag cruise ships. A sample domestic deep sea itinerary is outline.
