Abstract
This 3 minute 22 second video briefly describes the academic social networks ResearchGate and Academia.edu. It mentions the benefits of these sites and highlights that they are commercial in nature. It warns academic authors that uploading their papers to these sites may violate publishers' copyrights and notes that users of the sites indemnify the sites against legal claims of infringement. It concludes by suggesting that for making full-text articles available, a better choice is to comply with the URI Open Access Policy and submit full texts to DigitalCommons@URI.
The video was published on YouTube and made available as part of the supporting materials for the "ResearchGate, Copyright, and You" Search Savvy Seminar offered by the University of Rhode Island University Libraries in November 2016.
