Abstract
Satellite observation of ocean temperature using infrared radiometers on polar-orbiting satellites started in the 1960's and has continued to the present. This paper gives an historical overview, discusses current technology and reviews new activities. Three themes are explored in this discussion: (1) current capabilities, (2) documenting global change, and (3) EOSDIS AVHRR Pathfinder activities. © 1991.
