Abstract
A high level of anxiety is a problem that often occurs among patients after fracture surgery resulting in inadequate sleep quality. High levels of anxiety are a common problem in post-fracture surgery patients, resulting in poor sleep quality. This study aims to examine the relationship between sleep quality and anxiety levels in post-fracture surgery patients in the inpatient ward of a public hospital in Aceh province, Indonesia. This study employed a correlative approach with a cross-sectional design. The instruments used were the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). The population in this study was 238 post-inferior extremity fracture surgery patients. The sample size was 77 respondents, obtained using accidental sampling. The statistical test used was the Multicollinearity Test. The findings of binary logistic regression showed that of the five factors investigated, only anxiety level was substantially associated to sleep quality (p = 0.012). Respondents with high anxiety had nearly 19 times the likelihood of experiencing poor sleep quality (OR = 18.89). The occupational variable was nearly significant (p = 0.051), however; gender, education, and lighting did not acknowledge any meaningful association. Thus, anxiety is the primary factor determining sleep quality. Providing psychological assistance and counseling as needed may help patients improve their sleep quality and overall recovery from fracture surgery. Continuous monitoring and patient-centered treatment are critical for improving postoperative outcomes.
