Abstract
Both new and old techniques are described that make adaptive equalization less sensitive to noise, frequency offset, symbol synchronization offset, and impulsive components. The methods that are insensitive to inaccuracies in estimates of parameters of the channel and receiver are discussed. The effectiveness of fractionally spaced equalizers in combatting the effects of symbol timing errors and the application of low-rank-matrix approximation techniques to robust equalization are also considered.
