Abstract
Important tasks in ECG signal analysis are the detection of the QRS complex (R wave), and the estimation of the instantaneous heart rate by measuring the time interval between two consecutive R waves. In this paper, we describe a QRS complex detector based on the Dyadic Wavelet Transform (DyWT) which overcomes the problems associated with several QRS detectors; namely, (1) they are insensitive to non-stationarities in the QRS complex and (2) are not robust to noise. We illustrate the performance of the DyWT based QRS detector with representative examples, and compare its performance to some of the QRS detectors developed thus far.
