Abstract
The use of the Loran system in meeting maritime accuracy requirements is discussed. The Loran-C's potential benefits hinge upon the level of position accuracy actually realized. A significant factor that limits the accuracy of a Loran system is spatial and temporal variation in the times of arrival observed by the receivers. A significant portion of these variations are due to the signals propagating over the paths of varying conductivity.
