Abstract
Recent advances in midinfrared (2-12- mu m) optical fibers require that attention be given to the development and design of measurement techniques and equipment to characterize these fibers. A discussion of the measurement considerations for characterizing midinfrared fibers for telecommunication applications is presented. A description of the sources and detectors suitable for use in the measurement is given. Currently used measurements and measuring systems for infrared fibers are reviewed.
