Description

James G. Kates, Poet, Literary Translator, and Co‐Publisher, Zephyr Press. In a “fishbowl” format, veterans of the Freedom Summer project comment on the learning and personal development gained from experiencing the race and social class norms of the South during this unprecedented phase of the U. S. civil rights movement. Exposure to these norms revealed the anti‐democratic power structure of the region, and placed the veterans in unconventional roles. In addition, the veterans will assess the progress of the movement over the last 50 years.
