Abstract
The dynamic response of a complaint offshore structure is studied with emphasis on chaotic behavior. The system is modeled as a single-degree-of-freedom linear system subjected to harmonic waves. The wave loading is considered proportional to the wave acceleration which is calculated at the displaced structure position. This wave structure system is nonlinear in nature. Based on numerical results, it is concluded that subharmonic motions of various orders, quasi-periodic motion, chaotic motion, and coexistence are all possible in certain frequency regions.
