Abstract
This paper investigates the pullout capacity of shallow plate anchors that might be considered in taut mooring systems for floating offshore wind turbines. Offshore wind energy development may move further offshore where floating structures become more economical. Plate anchors provide an efficient means of anchoring taut or semi-taut mooring systems.A series of 1 g model tests were performed on square plate anchors and compared to other experimental and theoretical studies from the literature. The results suggest that existing theoretical models overpredict the pullout capacity of shallow square plate anchors in sand.
