Abstract
We have developed a novel salt, lithium tetrafluorooxalatophosphate (LiPF4(C2O4)), for lithium ion battery electrolytes. The novel salt allows reversible cycling in propylene carbonate (PC) electrolytes and has comparable cycling efficiency to the current state-of-art electrolytes for lithium ion batteries. The improved cycling in the presence of PC is attributed to the generation of a stable anode solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) due to the presence of LiPF4(C2O4). Electrochemical cycling and ex-situ surface analysis of the cycled electrodes with SEM, XPS and IR-ATR will be presented.
