Abstract
A bandage that that can detect the presence of infections in a wound and monitor its condition has been developed by researchers at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, USA. The bandage comprises electrospun core-shell fibres embedded with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) that emit near-infrared (IR) radiation when exposed to hydrogen peroxide, the increasing concentration of which in a wound is a biomarker for inflammation and chronicity.
