Fashion is inspired by developments in the art world as well as in the sciences. Art movements and exhibitions in leading galleries and museums influence both designers and consumers. Likewise, textile and apparel companies quickly adopt technological advances for fibers and fabrics. For designers and manufacturers, it is increasingly important to quickly incorporate the latest from the worlds of art and science in order to attract attention to their products. The Spring 2013 seminar explored the art and science of fashion by inviting speakers from a variety of companies and institutions to address the topic. The class concluded with student presenters who earned an additional credit by researching a related topic of their own choice. The seminar is an advanced class designed to bring together subject matter from the entire TMD curriculum.
