Abstract

An overview of the literature relating to micro channels is presented in terms of current fabrication methods and fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics. The primary methods for the fabrication of micro channels, including precision cutting and micro machining techniques, are reviewed. Available experimental and numerical results indicate that the thermal hydraulic performance of micron-sized channels is quite different from macro channels. The present survey attempts to explain these findings in terms of such effects as surface roughness, rarefaction and compressibility.
