Description
Extrusion is commonly used to manufacture half of all plastic products, various devices and many processed food. During the past decades, a great deal of technical know-how has been accumulated mainly in the polymer processing field. Recently, there is a growing interest in utilizing extrusion for a new application - drug manufacturing. Besides of the significant efficiency advantage, extrusion is also believed to be one of the most promising methods for addressing the small molecular drug’s bioavailability challenge, which is caused by the poor aqueous solubility of the most newly developed drugs. The presentation will give a brief introduction to the extrusion process, followed by a review of recent research results regarding extrusion’s pharmaceutical applications.
