Abstract

Raise Your Voice: How Diverse Genres of HipHop, Spoken Word and Music Create a Culture of Nonviolence and Peace?

Dr. Paul de Mesquita, Professor, Psychology and Director Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies; and Performing Artists, Rudy Cabrera, Kaly the 5th Element, and Miss Lori. In contrast to a growing culture of violence so prevalent in all forms of mass media, this session will feature live performance artists presenting work in tribute to Gandhi and King, toward the goal of a peaceful inclusive multicultural "beloved community".
