Abstract

This paper suggests a comprehensive approach to maintenance dredging and maintenance dredge disposal for Connecticut in a carefully-regulated manner that will improve, rather than impair, the natural quality of the Sound. It proposes an interim measure that would allow for the continued operation of Connecticuts Commercial Harbor areas until a permanent program, together with the necessary technological advances, can be implemented to handle dredge disposal. This paper is based on data presently available on New Haven Harbor, presented in a report on the environmental quality of dredge spoils proposed to be removed from one area within New Haven Harbor known locally as the Coke Works Site.
