TRANS-REMEMBRANCE DAY VIGIL 2009; Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it. -George Santayana; What: This vigil is a chance to honor and memorialize those who have been killed due to anti-transgender hatred and prejudice.; Where: URI. We'll start at the circle next to Adams Hall (Barlow/Weldin Circle), move down Butterfield Rd. up West Alumni Ave. around the quad, down to Bard Hill Rd, and then finish in front of Adams.; BRING YOUR OWN SOURCE OF LIGHT (Candles, Lighters, Flashlight, etc);  55% of transgender youth report being physically attacked.  33.2% of transgender youth have attempted suicide.  74% of transgender youth reported being sexually harassed at school, and 90% of transgender youth reported feeling unsafe at school because of their gender expression.; In a survey of 403 transgender people, 78% reported having been verbally harassed and 48% re-ported having been victims of assault, including assault with a weapon, sexual assault or rape.; Sponsored by the URI Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Center, URI Gay Straight Alliance, SK High School Gay Straight Alliance
