Abstract
This study reports the application of Organizational Communication Conflict Instrument in Chinese state-owned enterprise. Principal component analysis has revealed a 5-factor structure, which conceptually corresponds to the five conflict strategies proposed by Blake and Mouton. Results also indicate that the frequency of employing the five strategies is in the rank order of collaboration, competition, compromise and accommodation, and avoidance. The impact of demographic data on conflict strategies as well was explored. Findings reinforce the argument that the study of conflict strategies should take cultural context into consideration and that the models developed in the West may not work successfully in non-Western contexts. Based on the data collected for this study, several suggestions are given for future research on conflict management.
