Abstract
Based on previous literature, this paper treats Confucius Institute’s (CI’s) intercultural communication influence (ICI) as both process and outcome of intercultural communication. It further argues that the interaction of “self-perceived image” and “other-perceived image” in the process of CI’s ICI resembles the alternation between yin and yang in traditional Chinese thought. This paper employs the yin-yang approach to analyze the theoretical relationship between “self-perceived image” and “other-perceived image”, and to explain the multidimensional orientation nature of CI’s ICI. It is hoped that the efforts can help to better understand the CI’s intercultural communication process. Implications and limitations are also discussed.
