Textile needs and constraints for intravehicular activity in long duration space flight, part 1: Weight limitations and hygiene
Abstract
The limiting factor for textiles and apparel used in space-based habitation will-until launch costs reach parity with Earth-based expedition costs (military or scientific)-continue to be the launch weight problem, where the main solution is broken down into extending wear through the development of laundry systems and applicable antimicrobial fabrics. A more detailed summary will be given in a future part of this article series.
